AUTHOR’S NOTES
I was lucky enough to work with the team at Eidos Montreal in the past on the Deus Ex video game series, and so I was delighted to be asked by them to step in and write some cutscene scripts for Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy during the game’s development, back in the summer of 2019.
This was actually my second time writing for the Guardians of the Galaxy in video games! Previously, I’d worked with Ninja Theory and Disney Interactive developing a storyline for a playset for the Disney Infinity toys-to-life game, to take place between the first and second MCU movies – but sadly the project was cancelled in its early phases.
As I’ve said many times, I’m big Marvel Comics nerd, so getting the opportunity to write some dialogue for gnarly characters like Star-Lord, Rocket Racoon and the rest of the modern-era Guardians was a lot of fun! I really liked Eidos Montreal’s new take on this gang of intergalactic reprobates, and the dynamic visuals for the game blew me away.
Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy won the Best Narrative category The Game Awards in 2021 and the Canadian Games Awards in 2022. It was nominated for Best Narrative at the 2022 BAFTA Video Game Awards.
