It’s been a while since I did an in-person Star Trek event and even longer since I did one in the United States – so I’m very pleased to be participating in the 43rd Annual Shore Leave convention, at the Delta Hotels Baltimore in Hunt Valley this coming weekend.
Shore Leave’s guest list is as impressive as ever this year, with stars of Star Treks Voyager, Deep Space Nine and Prodigy, along with Battlestar Galactica, Stargate SG-1, Stargate Universe and The Orville; but the convention is notable as being the event for fans of Star Trek tie-in fiction, with over 40 authors present for a packed program of panels, signings and more.
I’ll be taking part in a number of these, so if you want to catch up with me over the weekend, this is where I’ll be:
On Friday, I’ll be appearing on “What Happened to the Star Trek novels?” panel at 5:00pm in Salon E, with fellow authors Christopher L. Bennett, Dayton Ward, Glenn Hauman and David Mack, where we’ll talk about the impact on the current line of Star Trek tie-in fiction.
Then at 7:00pm in Chase room I’ll join John Coffren, Keith R.A. DeCandido, Scott Pearson, Robert Greenberger and Melissa Scott on the “Writing Tie-Ins” panel, talking about the highs and lows of working in a franchise universe.
And the big event of the day will be “Meet The Pros” from 10:00pm in the Ballroom Hallway, a free-form meet-and-greet for readers to meet writers, get books signed and check out new releases.
On Saturday, my ‘feature’ event for the weekend is a unique panel called “The End Is the Beginning” at 10:00am in the Chase room, where I’ll be joined once more by my colleagues David Mack, Dayton Ward and moderator Scott Pearson, to talk about the making of and after-effects of writing the epic Star Trek: Coda trilogy, discussing the scope of the project and a post-mortem on bringing an end to the Star Trek “litverse.” This will be the first time Dave, Dayton and our editor Scott will be in the same place at the same time to discuss the trilogy, and I fully expect this panel to be a lot of fun!
And then at 2:00pm in the Derby room, I’m joining Robb Pearlman, Dayton Ward, David Mack and Aaron Rosenberg for “More than Prose”, a panel where bestselling, award-winning authors, writers, and game designers discuss their experiences publishing gift books, game books, humour books, cookbooks, and other formats.
I may also be bringing a few extra books along to sign and to sell during the weekend (if I have space in my suitcase!), so if there’s something of mine you’re desperate to get, there’s still time to drop me a line via the email contact AT jswallow DOT com or reach me on social media and let me know!
