In the summer of 2019, an idea came together for a series of novels set in the ongoing continuity of the Star Trek fiction line; myself and my colleagues Dayton Ward and David Mack were approached to take on the writing duties, and over the next few months we developed the outline for an epic trilogy that will change the face of the Star Trek “literary universe” forever.
This weekend, sharp-eyed fans mined data on those books, revealing titles and release dates which I’m here to confirm are indeed authentic.
Dave, Dayton and I are all currently hard at work writing our respective books, out in the depths of Star Trek’s fictional frontier, and it’s true to say that the Coda trilogy has been a project like no other for us. While each novel is the work of a single writer, the series as a whole is the co-creation of the three of us – and it’s been an incredible experience bringing it to the page.
If you’re a regular reader of Trek novels and you’ve been keeping up with news, podcasts and forum posts, you’ll have seen us dropping hints about something we nicknamed the “The Plan” – This is it! And later in 2021, readers will finally get see what we’ve been cooking up.
The crews of Jean-Luc Picard, Benjamin Sisko, Ezri Dax, and William Riker unite to prevent a cosmic-level apocalypse — only to find that some fates really are inevitable.
I’m writing the middle book in this trilogy, and I’m pleased to officially announce the title here:
The series will release in paperback and ebook editions toward the end of this year; details are flowing out from our publisher Simon & Schuster to Amazon and other digital storefronts at the moment, so pre-order links should be up imminently – keep an eye on this blog or my Twitter feed for when those go live.
